Back Bear Stickers + Otakon 2012

First off, I just want to let the universe know that this weekend I, along with Laura Galbraith and Alice Meichi, will be be tabling at Otakon, the east coast’s premiere anime and comics convention, taking place in Baltimore, MD. Sources tell me our table is R13 in the Artists’ Alley. So if you are within the gravitational pull of that star system it would be nice to see y’all before you get sucking into the gravitational pull of all the amazing costumes that will surely be there. This will be my first time in both Baltimore and to Otakon.  Super excited!

Below are some new stickers I made this week with a brand new drawing in preparation for Otakon. It started as a possible tattoo idea, but then I thought, “This would look way rad on silver. Too bad I don’t have silver skin … but i do have silver sticker paper…”

First print came out perfect. So far so good…

Next page: not so good. Apparently silver paper likes to clog things. Apparently, i need to cleanse the toner drum between sheets. This is one of the scrap pages.

Eventually I stopped wasting paper, and came up with a pile of shiny stickers! Hooray!

Time Out Chicago Kids Illustrations

It good to share... usually
I recently did a series for Time Out Chicago Kids for articles highlighting Chicago’s playgrounds, and the lack thereof  in certain areas. Check out the online version of the section including a few of my illustrations throughout. There are a few more that only appear in the print version.

This was a really fun assignment to draw and I enjoyed added my own cocepts into the mix. Getting to douse a bulldozer with boogers was one of the highlights for me.

I created these 95% in Adobe Illustrator with some final touches and color adjustment s in Photoshop. For the most part I worked directly from my sketches> Normally i might do a second draft in pencil to ink digitally, but the deadline was pretty tight, and I was already pretty happy with the sketches. That also helped keep the energy the initial sketches.

New Screen Print: I Scream Truck

Over the weekend I did some screen printing of a new piece. It’s the first time I screen printed something myself in a loooooooooooooong time. Very out of practice and very sore but I really like how it came out.

I had been wanting to screen print for a while since I happen to have access to a studio. However I couldn’t figure out what I wanted to print. None of my existing finished pieces seemed like they’d translate well. So I started pecking around and had I had this drawing of just regular ice cream truck lying around. Though it would be fun attack it with some vandalism and put some scary bears are the wheel set it in some soft-serve colors. The rest is sweaty, ink-cover history.

Will be selling them at MoCCA Fest and maybe The Brooklyn Zine Fest later this month. But why wait until then?

Good it thing.

Another random drawing, that I drew last night. I was culling through my sketchbook for inspiration ad this little antlered fellow caught my fancy. I, however, can’t explain the disembodied old man, therefore… SURREALISM! That’s what it is.

Pineapple

Think I’m gonna continue on with a series of fruit and veggie illustrations. Here to kick things off is Mr. Pineapple.

Mega Man Tribute: Kitchen of Spoils

Hazaa! The moment has finally arrived when I can share my contribution to Udon Entertainment’s Megaman Tribute book. So basically for this piece I thought it would be fun to see what ol’ Rock Man would do with different bosses’s head. I mean they all have these silly heads that resemble household objects anyway.

The Book is premiering at the San Diego Comic-con at the UDON booth (#5037), July 20-24. Or if yo can’t make it to Comic-con this year, like me :’(, then you can pre-order the hardcover or softcover version online. How novel, you can order things you desire from the internet for postal delivery to your door so that you may possess them!

What’s that you say, you wat to see a printed version of my piece but nothing else in the book? First off, what’s wrong with you, there are soem many talented artist in the book it will make you circuits melt. Secondly, I have a solution for you, prints of the piece are now available in the Eye Heart Us store.

Did anyone else ever wear a blue sweatshirt and pull the sleeve over your left arm to pretend you were Mega? Just wondering…

Rush from Mega Man

I’m pleased to say that one of my pieces was selected to appear in Udon Entertainment’s Mega Man Tribute book coming out this July. This isn’t the pice that made, I’m not allowed ot share that until the book’s release. However, I think I’ll post a teaser of that image later this week. So stay tuned…

The Brooklyn Mutt Show Poster

This is the poster I did for, you guessed it, The Brooklyn Mutt Show at the Brooklyn Lyceum. I wonder if our two mutts are disqualified because I did the poster. I also wonder if there really are Dalma-ranian (Dalmatian/Pomeranian) mixed breeds…

P.S. FYI, Laura and I will be at MoCCA Fest on April 9-10 in Manhattan, one of the biggest alternative and indie comics conventions.

UPDATE: Google says no on the Dalma-ranians.
