Big Bang Theory: Howard In Space

HOWARD_WOLOWITZ_IN_SPACE-2

My piece for THE PHYSICS OF FRIENDSHIP: A TRIBUTE TO THE BIG BANG THEORY at Gallery Nucleus.

My mom actually gave me the idea for the piece. Big Bang Theory is one of her favorite shows so I asked her what she’d like to see me make. She thought it would be cool to see Howard in a space suit that looked like one of his retro outfits with the big belt buckle and all.

I wanted to try working with a more limited color palette. I tend to make pieces in full color but I thought this piece would have more impact with just a few bold colors.

One of my favorite parts of the piece is the star necklace Howard got for his then fiancé, Bernadette. Before letting her keep it, he wanted to take it with him to the International Space Station so she could “have a star that was actually in space.” I positioned the necklace so that the star overlaps Pasadena on the globe, back where his love is waiting for him to return home.
